OSPBEIJ30: The Economic Development of China: Past, Present and Future (Way: SI)

This is a survey course of the Chinese economy with emphasis on understanding a.) the process of economic development in China over the centuries before 1949; b.) the economy during the age of Socialism; and c.) economic reform, transition and development during the past 40 years. It will help students learn the different historical stages of institutional changes, develop an informed perspective on economic and political rationale and the effectiveness of the economic policies that have shaped China’s economic emergence, and think critically about the process of economic and social changes. NOTE: Same as ECON 131. Students may not earn credit for both OSPBEIJ 30 and ECON 131.
